they had house branded cycles

recall french ones which looked as though they may have been produced by Sutter

if you explore the name you will quickly discover that there is/was another Flying Dutchman cycles located in Denver

there have been a few discussion threads on the name over at BF

these drew posts from readers with direct knowledge

Van Der Kolk and Sons newspaper ads from 1962-1965. Only years I could find ads for. No references to Flying Dutchman. 1964-65 Glendale ads have different address than shown above but 1971-72 ads have address and phone number above but do not say Van Der Kolk.

1962 located in Castro Valley CA, south of Oakland:

1963 located in Oakland CA:

1964-65 located in Glendale CA:

1971-1972 located at 509 East Broadway Glendale CA:

1977 Los Angeles Times article lists a Ted Van Der Kolk Sr. of Glendale as a manufacturer and importer of mopeds:

Thanks so much for this information.

The Castro Valley and Oakland locations had not come up in any of the discussion threads regarding the name over at BF.

There also seems to have been a presence in connection with Big Wheel Ltd of Denver.
