I live for the CABE
Picking this up tomorrow.

I don't know how much can be told from the pics but best guess.
I'm thinking 30's but I don't own any pre
war Schwinn's other than a woman's that I was told was a 35 or 36, and it has the same guard.

Truth will be told once you get a serial number when you get it.
Nice find. Looking it over the frame looks like a C- model?
Here is a pic out of prewar book I got from someone here on the Cabe.

97. Is close but your frame has a little bit longer top tube.

The

machine I think.
Also the crank was marked as a 36.

I suppose it could be hand stamped, though the numbers are lined up quite nicely.

Looks machine stamped to me. If you go by Tim's list the serial is 1937. 36 numbers were hand stamped but nobody has pin pointed the exact time when the change happened as far as I know.

R5****-W08983 1937

I have a one owner May 1961 frame that has a 1962 cast dated crank. The original owner "told" me that the crank was never replaced. I find that very odd, but an early 37 bike with a 36 crank wouldn't be uncommon.

That R sure is weird looking and has me scratching my head. :p Looks like a P with a funky Y thru the hole. lol

Yeah, the first ser list I found said 37, then someone on here said it sounded like a 36 number, so when I took out the cranks and it said 36, I just decided to go with that.
