Jackpop,

I’m curious if that kick stand is cadmium plated or chrome?

1963 and early ‘64 Stingrays had the cadmium stand, then the majority of ‘64 were chrome.

Here are several chrome versions for the “short frame“ Stingrays.

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

It’s cadmium plated which I’m not sure is correct for an August bike. Do you know when the change over month was? Also I appreciate the information you post on this site, it’s incredibly informative.

Thank you,
Jim

Hi Jim,

On Original Stingrays my records show all of 1963 and into D4 (April ‘64) had cadmium plated kick stands, then E4 (May ‘64) and through 1966 had the chrome kick stand, so I’m thinking April was the transition month from Cad to Chrome kick stands.
Who‘s to say why your H4 has a cadmium kick stand.

In 1967 Schwinn went back to the cadmium plated stands.

I’ll start a thread on this topic and hope we get some contributions (with photos of dates and kick stands) from owners of 1964 factory Original Stingrays.

Thank you for the compliment!
Much appreciated.

Chris
