Finally riding a big boys bike
Anyone else riding an old bicycle to school or work this fall?
I picked up this Heavy Duti recently after it sold locally at a garage sale then showed up on CL fixed up a little yet the same asking price.
I had a Heavy Duti in the 90’s and this one seemed the perfect replacement and reliable machine to get me to Pro Culinary school which began Labor Day.
Each day I ride 7.5mi roundtrip with a timed run in the morning which varies from 19:46 min to 21:48 min.
These old Schwinn’s tear in urban cycling environments and although the Heavy Duti is by design a little looser (20T x 46T) in the gearing it still sprints like nobodies business.
I rode an $80 CL mid 50’s ladies bike to my summer class which is a little faster (18T x 46T) and works just as well.
These old Schwinn bikes are so well built and just amazing commuters.
Since I like to name my bikes and this one has some corrosion peppering on the plating it is called “Mignionette”
(Cracked Black & White Peppercorns)
