Just finished this Miami built custom for a friend. He wanted an 8 speed cruiser with a drum brake. Alrighty then. He left the rest to my own design. NOS fenders I picked up. Fork was beyond repair so I sourced a swap meet special and made it fit. He wanted wide bars. My wife designed and made the vinyl badge since it was missing and couldn’t find one with the hole pattern. Custom paint and patina job by me, that was fun!

This is now the second 28” wheeled bike I’ve built like this. They ride absolutely amazing. 700c Blunts. 8 speed Shimano Nexus coaster brake. Sturmey front drum.

Thanks! I don’t normally like fake patina, but there was nothing left to save of the original paint. I like bikes to be ridden and thrown in the back of a truck for enjoyment. A combination of scuff pads, sandpaper, a rusty chain used as a hammer and rubbing the parts in the gravel driveway helped to achieve the paint. I just used a gold paint pen for the pins.

The badge was a special project incorporating some (assumed) elements of this bike’s history and the manufacturing company/owner’s history. And ultimately calling out the railroad junction which is now a bike trail.

Little bit of weekend tune up on my 1924 Schwinn built Hawthorne Deluxe. Rear wheel had gone a little out of true and was rubbing the fender brace in one spot on a 25 mile ride yesterday… got that sorted. But while on the stand I decided to wipe the 1 year worth of dust off it since I first built it. And then I wiped it down with some GIBBS oil. Man did it wake the paint up! It was looking pretty sorry…
