On Training Wheels
Hey there, as announced on the Birds of a Feather forum, my name's Alasdair Fotheringham and I'm a cycling journalist specialising in modern-day racing, but on this occasion I need some help with background info. on three bikes recently donated to some colleagues at the Belgian National Cycling Museum. Any comments on these gratefully received.
Photos in attached files (have many more, but figured best to start with just a few). They are an 1898 (?) Dayton Flyer, a 1902 (?) Black Diamond and an 1893-95 (?) Newport. I include the model number badges from the two which have them (the Dayton and the Newport).
Thankyou!

Lovely bicycles!

The Davis Sewing Machine Co. Dayton is a stunner! Someone here should be able to provide an exact date and original catalog image showing this bicycle.

The second looks like a Miami Racycle so I am confused why you are calling it a Black Diamond. Can you please post a picture of the badge. I ask because there was a company in Pennsylvania who offered a "Black Diamond" bicycle (and a couple other firms as well).

Thank you for posting.

The Newport was manufactured by H.P. Snyder in Little Falls, New York; again someone here should be able to provide you a better biography of that company or specific facts you are seeking.

The Black Diamond is very nice, first known date of manufacture is 1897 by Henry Zahn at 613 Broadway, Buffalo, NY known to have been in operation till 1902.
