Bending Bars

Has anyone tried bending handlebars? I've heard of packing sand in them to do so. Thoughts? I bought a new set of Soma lauterwasser bars and they just aren't quited what I thought they would be.

The plating may flake when bent, whether bent cold, or hot. Yes you can pack them with sand, and bend pipe. I have bent up to 2 " steel pipe, "firmly" packed with course sand, with both ends of the pipe capped off, but...it was also heated red hot, to stretch the metal as it bends.

Oh, I didn't think about the chrome......hmm....
