Great display and and fantastic old desk!
The old Sears catalog, got those too, very useful for researching old stuff. Old US Copper Coins eh? Is an 1817 Bust Penny your oldest? Rarest?
My neighbor flies back east to detect Revolutionary and Civil War sites with his brother. He's found 3 Flying Eagle Cents in the last 15 years but has yet to find a Barber dime, quarter or half. He's got early 1700s coins but no late 1800s silver.
My oldest US coin is a 1851 large cent I eyeballed about 2005 perched on top of a about a wheelbarrows worth of sand one rainy day. Someone drove over a fire hydrant on New Montgomery St in SF and the water dept had come out to dig out the old coupling and put in a new hydrant. I walked past the pile for at least a week and finally noticed the edge on the old copper disk I thought was a crusty old washer because of a hole in the middle. Had it for a couple month and my daughter, 6 at the time, wanted to clean a penny with vinegar. I gave her the copper disk and after a few hours we could start to see lettering.
