Finally riding a big boys bike
Im just wondering what you all have as far as bike restoring/cleaning materials and equipment?
I have seen cabe members do some great detailing work and would like to learn.

it really depends on how crusty of a bike you are working on.

WD 40 and 00 steel wool.
Evaporust.
brass brushes.
rubbing compound and or assorted McGuire's polish for the paint.
simple green.
Oxalic acid and a kiddie pool. (wood bleach)
elbow grease and time...
more of elbow grease and time.

Foaming bathroom cleanser as a first step. LA's Totally Awesome cleaner/degreaser from the dollar store. Jet Spray Gumout for really nasty freewheels and derailleurs- BUT it will dissolve paint. Lots of cloth rags.

I think everyone cleaning tool box will be slightly different. For me it will be the following.

WD40
Steel wool 000, 0000
Various size wire brushes plus a brass brush
TR3 for any paint cleaning and polishing.
Saddle soap for the seat
Detail brushes
Micro fiber towels
Terrycloth towels

What paint cleaners and polish is everyone using?
for final polish I always use Mirror Glaze products. for getting the rough spots I use "fine cut" rubbing compound, no particular brand. the paste kind that comes in a little plastic tub. you can find these at your local auto parts store.
