Amsterdam is the bike theft capital of the world.
That is why they end up in the canals.
I'm surprised that they don't give the bikes to charities, rather than recycle the raw materials.

I guess you just stumbled onto our national pastime: throwing bikes into canals!

In Holland charity organizations don't bother with rusty bikes fished out of canals. With over 22 million bikes to 17 million inhabitants there are better bikes to choose from. And as you've already guessed correctly from those numbers, there are not that many people here that do not have a bike.

What a massive waste of time and money and bikes. Why so many people would throw their bike in a canal is beyond me. The video sure makes me want to visit Amsterdam though. I imagine there are a lot of bike shops and mechanics there. I never once pulled a bike from a Phoenix canal. What about you @Miq?
