Blast From the Past

Finally riding a big boys bike
Back in 2002 , I was asked by my friend Kevin Young the curator of Buffalo Gap Historic Village , to bring my old bikes and motorcycles up to the site for an event. It was called from “Horses to Horseless Carriages”. I collected a couple of living history buddies, Steve Hardin and Hector Gonzalez and headed to the event. It was a great time.
Sadly, when I thought of leaving the bike hobby several years ago, I sold my restored 1891 Victor Hard Tire Safety you see in the pictures.(Never afford to get that one back). However , I came to my senses and am in the process of upgrading the 1896 Crescent you see here.
Also, that’s my 1936 BSA M20...still going strong.
On a sad note , Kevin and Hector both passed away way before their time. We miss them to this very day.
Enjoy the photos!

Thanks catfish......I'm hoping to either find or create some events here in Texas. I am tied into a few historic sites in my area, just don't know how many other antique bicycle owners are in my area of Victoria, Texas (2 hours from Houston and San Antonio). Anyone out there interested in riding and show casing the bicycles, particularly in a historic setting, let me know.

Not to get too far off topic here, but Mike, did you ever attend the Presidio-La Bahia event for the Fannin massacre? Your name sounds very familiar as well. I grew up participating in reenactments there with fellow reenacts. Its was a great time and I always make it a point to visit any time I am back in Texas. My dad is Dan Overpeck. You might know him if you did any of these. He played Sam Houston for several years at the San Jacinto reenactment as well. This would have been in the late 80's through late 90s.

Yes I am, actually I’m the person who started the Massacre event and was the first person to do any living history at the Presidio back in 1979

Awesome! Small world. I have many fond memories of that place. I wish I were still in Corpus Christi, as I would be down to create an antique bicycle club. Not too much of that down that way.
