Ricollector

Finally riding a big boys bike
Good Evening,
I purchased a schwinn 1939 dog leg crank with the bearing set. The race cones are worn badly. I need to purchase race cones and bearings, but I don't know which ones to purchase? Ebay has a few different sets for sale but I don't know which I need. I think they are 28 tpi, but not sure if a certain diameter is needed. Please help.
Thank you

They look standard, and threads look 24 to my eyes; if you can eyeball them, they are likely the coarser (less fine) threads.
I have seen some watertight BB sets, not sure how effective they are.
You may also order separate (sets of 10; 5 bikes), ball bearings w/ retainers, they come in 9, 10, or 12 bearing groups.

A simple check, without measuring, would be to visually compare against a head tube or headset, (if known to be 24 tpi).

28 TPI for sure. I look for Repop phantom sets stamped AS. or misc. Cones with Schwinn or Schwinn approved. There are a few different heights. Unless you have a pile of Schwinn frames dating back to 1940 you ain't gonna find bearing cups that are good+ able to seat in frame tight. I could use a couple sets of bearing cups myself

Thank you for the information, now I am on the hunt for a new set.
