Ceramic ball bearings can replace steel bearings, reducing friction. They’re more expensive, but do not suffer from corrosion. Many of the big bicycle makers have switched over to ceramic bearings for steering tubes and bottom brackets.

I was gonna say they're much more expensive than steel. Guys have been using them on high-end R/C cars for years.
