In my opinion, if you find it is curved and pretty uniform you may want to leave it that way- unless you are a very skilled metal smith I think you will end up with very wavy product.

Definitely flat.. I've done one it's not bad but you do have to have body work experience/skills.. it will show every speck of warpage dents and filler if not done right..
If I read a post on Rat Rods bike correctly, TRM is not trying to reshape a guard, he wants to know if it's flat or rounded so that he knows how to shape a mold for reproduction purposes.
