Riding One Of My Monark Super Deluxe's
Addressing the Elephant in the room!!
Let's agree or Constructively disagree.
IMO----I feel shipping cost is effecting things and has for a while now. With the shipping costs sky rocketing having to ad the cost of shipping to the base line cost of a bike changes things!! You must admit on so many of these bikes we're seeing for sale now, it seems shipping cost is a 3rd and sometimes up to Half of what the bike is worth. Making it just not worth it anymore for these bikes. The days of selling and shipping a 300 to an 800 dollar bike are just about gone. Thus the jump to "The bike market is dead" thinking by some! It's like anything else, if enough people read that phrase or hear those words, then it really becomes dead.
The thinking of what to sell on line (complete bikes) is what needs to change!! Quality and Rarity is the future of bikes on line. Not running around screaming "The sky is falling"! It's not the hobbies fault nor the bike's. Sure, we all would like our "For Sales" to sell locally, or a hand off, or at the Swaps etc., but we all know how that works. We all have those bangers that we want to climb out of, but when it comes to "On Line" selling of it, Don't Blame It On The Hobby!!
