Chris G

'Lil Knee Scuffer
I have put this machine on e.bay here in the UK but it may be of interest to collectors in the US. Unfortunately the auction ends tomorrow.

These are the remains of a circa 1889 Quadrant Tricycle for restoration. It was purchased by my father a few years ago here in the UK but stored ever since. I have searched for the missing parts without success and therefore presume that it was purchased as it is.

The rear axle appears pretty much complete with its two hubs, three bearing hangers (no ball bearings present) and differential housing / dual band brake drum. I have a number of bevel gears to view but cannot guarantee that they are correct for the half shafts.

The crank and chainwheel is correct I think. The front steering quadrants are there but the brass skates that travel along them and the hub etc. are missing. My Dad started to make a replacement axle (two off) but I cannot guarantee that this is correct.

I have Googled these machines and the ladies model seemed to have 30'' rear wheels and a 26'' front. I have a nice 25'' (26'' with solid tyre?) and several 29'' (30'' with tyres) rims and the sale will include three. Some of the mens' models had 40'' rear wheels but I do not have spare rims.

Note - the complete 26'' wheel shown has a very nice, slim rim which can be available but the wheel itself is I think from a cart rather than a bicycle as it has a plain bearing hub and heavy gauge spokes so is not correct for the Quadrant.

The two rear footplates are there and one of the fronts; I will keep looking!

I do not know too much about these machines and cannot offer any guarantee so it is being sold as seen.

Thank you.
