Michael Boyd

Finally riding a big boys bike
Hi All,
I’m beginning the process of preserving (not full restoration) of my 1934 Shelby Lindy. I plan on cleaning her up, putting rideable correct wheels and tires (right now it has a Shimano Nexus set up
on it, looking for “ready to ride “ triple drop wheels that I can put clay colored tires on)
The fenders I have are restored and so I need to “age” them to match the rest of the bike (not sure of how to do that yet)
So , for a while I’ve tried to see what color the original 1934 Lindy was and from what little there is to see out there, it seems the basic colors are Blue and Cream(or white) , not Red and Blue like the 1927-30 Lindys.

Below are pictures of my bike and then some photos of some I’ve found here on the CABE.
My bike seems to follow the blue and cream/white theme, I’ll know more once I start cleaning.
So what I’d like to find out:

1. What color were the 1931-34 Lindys
2. Does anyone have any suggestions how to “antique” the fenders
3. Does anyone have any photos or literature on the 1931-34 Lindys

I really appreciate any advice of help on this project
Thanks, Mike

The 1/2” pitch mouse-ears sprocket reminds me of Mead Chicago; maybe to fit the Shimano parts. I believe that Shelby’s mouse-ears sprocket was a 26 skip tooth.

I recall pictures of Lindy’s “Spirit of St. Louis” showing a mono-plane aircraft; (don’t recall if it was controversial).

Is the sprocket pictured below what I need to find and will the crank I presently have work with this sprocket?

Again, any thoughts on color . Are the other 1934 Shelbys I’ve shown above the “scheme”
I’m pretty sure the 1934 Lindy is not painted the same as the 1927-30 models , which are VM predominately red and blue.
Tough to find out as literature on this era of Lindy is nonexistent.
