Colton bike - what have I got here?

I'm thinking of giving this bike as a gift, but thought I should find out more about it first. The head badge says it is a Colson, but I cannot find anything like it on the inter tube. It seems to have been the subject of a frame repair. Any info on background, year of manufacture, value, etc. is appreciated.

I bet it's a modified earlier Colson tricycle. I like it.

I sort of thought it might be the trike. I wonder why they modified it.

Cause the kid wanted his training wheels off ... Lol and Penny Farthings are way more cool.

May ruin it's originality and value, but makes it a lot easier to hang on the wall too.

Mid '30s and with that modification more of a curiosity than collector piece. Parts worth more than whole on this one.
