I would like to use the below brake arm but need to know what year and hub it is for.
Any ideas to that?

Without the rest of the hub it is just another piece-part, but it sure looks fancy and the nickel plating is shiny.
(We saw that one on eBay?)

I just got it off ebay.

And I disagree the brake arm is not just another part, as the arm is mainly what we use for dating. The type of text, words used, font, and how it is attached.

So that said what hub uses this arm and when was it used?

I see it as a mystery to be solved and hopefully to finally use it.
I know someone on the Cabe has to be big brain enough to know.

This is a great topic to read through!
Thanks for all the information.

I bought a New Departure model D hub. But (in my eyes) saw something I did not expect...

This arm is from 1940/41 thanks to this forum.

Checkout the driver. A modern 3 tab sprocket fits on there. I'm confused since this only appeared later (the 3 tab sprockets)... or am I mistaken here?

Driver and cone fit perfectly.

The hub is in great condition. But the sprocket and driver is a mystery to me? Is there anyone with an explanation for this? Eager to learn!

Not sure if (post-1933) Mattatuck Model-E sprocket-drivers were compatible and interchangeable with New Departure Models C/D?

Thank you for your input.

Never heard of Mattatuck.
Were they copies of New Departure hubs, hence why they fit?
Very interesting combination then.
I will search and read more about that!

Can't find much on Mattatuck, but I completely disassembled my 1940/41 New Departure model D hub, cleaned it thoroughly and assembled with new grease.

The brake plates were still oily, so kept them that way. There is an lubrication port, so I can lube a little 'thick oil' in there.

Pictures: I hope it helps with the knowlegde here.

Like new (brake side dust cap).

I feel bad lacing this hub on a bicycle and riding with it.
