Look Ma, No Hands!
I bought a bike the other day that is a 3 speed with chrome or ss fenders. The owner wasn't sure what it is for sure but I looked up the serial number M812567 and it came up as a 1958 Schwinn. The chain guard is painted over as may well be the rest of the bike. I looked closely and it seems to have the letters raised where the name should be and I can make out Corv so I assumed that it must be or someone changed the guard. Weird thing is the color, it's light or sky blue. Did Schwinn even have this color in '58? Anyone have any idea of what I'm looking at for sure? Thanks in advance for any help.

Nope, that’s house paint. Pull the fork, crank or try stripper to see the original color.

The serial number was stamped on December 1, 1958. The bike was built sometime in 1959 and that never was or is a Corvette. It's a cantilever frame that has been pieced together and repainted and its identity is pretty much meaningless at this point.

Have you done anything with this yet or find any markings on the chain guard? My bet is that was either a Speedster or a Tiger model.
