Corvette serial number F896807 = 6/25/58?

Wore out three sets of tires already!
Struggling a little with the Schwinn serial number list. Does a Corvette with #F896807 mean it was built on 6/25of 58? Why do the 6/25 numbers range from F885581 to F807804 when the second number is lower?

Really makes no difference what day your number was stamped anyway. The serial date is when the number was stamped on the drop out component which was later used to build a frame.
 
That's really strange. Sometimes the numbers just have a simple error and you can see where they went wrong, but this one's beyond me. I'd call it a '58 and be done with it.
 
the parts that r on a bike will usually help determine year it was originally sold,excluding variations and left over parts used on the next years production,pretty clear huh?

This seems like a good idea to me. Bike has the earlier guard so I'm just going to go with the 58 designation. Was just looking it up for someone else anyway.

I think that the last number in the 6/25 date should be F907804 and the 1st digit following the F in the dates of the 26th - 30th should also be a 9.

Wouldn't "F9" be June 1959? I can't make heads or tails of this one.
 
F is the 6th month, June. All years starting in April of '58 started with an Alpha character at the front to represent the month. A = January, B= February, etc.

But according to the following, which I copied and pasted from the Angelfire website, my theory is KAPUT! The number following the letter represents the year.


NEW NUMBERING SYSTEM:

AS OF ( 04/17/58 )
THE FIRST LETTER IS THE MONTH, - FIRST NUMBER IS THE YEAR.
THE LETTER " I " IS SKIPPED TO AVOID CONFUSION WITH THE NUMBER 1

Examples:
E836708 ---- E = May ---- 8 = 1958.
A = January, ---- M = December, Etc.
9 = 1959, - 0 = 1960, - 1 = 1961 Etc.


F9 would be a June 1959 date.

So my theory is wrong. Hopefully everyone will read this and ignore my post.

If it was mine I would just say the serial was stamped sometime during the last two days of June and call it done.

F8 96807 + 3912 more stampings = the end of the F numbers for June, F8 99999

Works for me. I not that concerned about the actual day it was made just wanted to get the year right. Thanks for all the responses.
