I live for the CABE
A friend alerted me to some bikes on the curb in Dumont NJ (a New York suburb). One that I picked up was this Jazz Street Life hybrid. There was a LBS sticker from Bicycle Wheelers in Tempe AZ. There was another sticker underneath from Landis with stores in Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale. It makes me imagine the outline of a biography of the bike:

Being taken home from Bicycle Wheelers by an excited teenager. Riding under the clear Arizona sky. Being repaired at another LBS. Bouncing across the country in the back of a truck. Languishing in a dark, cold garage in northern New Jersey. Being dragged roughly out to the curb. Picked up and cared for by a kind stranger. Once again riding in the sun.

Neat! Bicycle Wheelers was a great place and my go-to/nearest shop when I lived in Tempe from 2004-2006. I believe they got rolled into Dominic's, which was maybe a sister shop, a few blocks away. Dominic's was a bit more high-end. Landis has/had a few valley locations including south Tempe.

Jazz was a short-lived Trek budget brand. They had some funny model names. Street Life is a great song by The Crusaders.

Glad you're giving it a new lease on life!

Tempe is where ASU is located and there were at least 2 bike shops close by. One of them finally closed up 3-4 years ago right after the last time I was there. I'd guess that your bike was owned by a student attending ASU that lived in your area, then he took the bike back home after attending ASU.

That could be the basis for a good story as well! Now that you mention it, my niece attended ASU and met her future husband there. She came home to NJ with a diploma, a boyfriend, and a small cactus tattoo on her ankle. I don't think that she brought back a bike.

I guess I'm getting old and keeping track of the years is getting harder. 😱 That old Schwinn dealer in Tempe that I had been going to was Ehrhardt's. He would tell me about all the good old days and chat with me for an hour. The shop was just down University Dr a few blocks from the campus.
