Polara

'Lil Knee Scuffer
This is a bike that has quickly became one of my favorite projects. Originally I picked it up because I was dying for an X53 and I couldn’t help myself when I was fortunate enough to find this one. Even though it’s covered in spray paint and missing its tank I was still super excited to find one! As time passed on I managed to find a boys frame and this bike became a donor being that it had so many of the really hard to find parts like the rear spear and reflector bezel. After it was basically down to a bare frame it sat for a long while until I finally decided to put it to use. Since this was a Murray frame I figured it needed to have some colorflow style fender skirts as that’s one of THE bits of styling that pops in my head when I think of 1950s Murray built bicycles. I made a post here on The CABE and was lucky to get a message from SM2501 who had these beautiful chrome guards. Interestingly enough he was also the same guy I bought the X53 from originally so I am super thankful to him for selling me these awesome parts! On days off I’ve been doing little bits at a time getting it to where I have so far. The color scheme with the coral and white was inspired by my favorite 1950s concept car the 1957 Mercury XM Turnpike Cruiser which is a car that I feel really captured the space age and futuristic look that I love. It’s not perfect and it’s a mix matched parts pile of a lot of random bits from other bicycles but I think it really turned out to be pretty good looking! It’s still a work in progress so there’s plenty left to be done and suggestions are more than welcome! I can’t wait to put many miles on this classic 1950s cruiser.
