Finally riding a big boys bike
Looking for some advice on the latest bike I picked up for a $100 bucks. Per the serial number chart seems to be 1938, also has the 23 stamped below the serial number.

Was looking to do a patina restore and noticed the where the down tube attaches to the head tube might have a cracked weld...Thoughts based on my pictures? It feels solid but visually looks separated. If it is cracked, what type of weld was this - stick, mig, tig, or brazed? If I do have to reweld it, I’ll most likely loose the patina - any thoughts on stripping the whole bike and doing another type of finish - I like rust and metal and original paint not shiny new paint.

The rear wheel seems to have been painted silver, planned to chemical strip that wheel. Front wheel unpainted rusty chrome.

Also, was curious about the hubs? Ae these hubs original to the bike and worth rebuilding? Front hub seems cool but the rear hub with JC Higgins brake arm seems odd? I understand these are called air cooled hubs - I like the holes on the rear sprocket.

Anyway, thanks in advance and I greatly appreciate all the knowledge from the Cabe community!

Josh

The hubs are not correct for that bike. Likely had either ND Model D or Morrow rear and ND W model front. V/r Shawn

I live for the CABE
Well for one thing compared to where tubes attach to seat post -then yes they look to be seperated. Also I stripped some drop centers now I wish I hadn't. Cause the faded chrome -bare metal rust look got old real quick. I took a cwc. Frame to my radiator guy and told him to lay beads on seat post tube and BB. just to be safe. I don't mind the repairs but on my bike I'll remove the chipped frame paint
