Dating Assistance Needed for Clement, Paris

New Mexico Brant

Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
I was thrilled to finally purchase a Clement & Co. that seems pretty original. Being interested in early motorized machines Clements hold a special place for me in the history of bicycles, motorized bicycles, and motorcycles.

Can anyone help out with an accurate date of this Clement please? Serial number: 203404. Are these pedals Clement exclusive? Also any thoughts who made this saddle that came with the bicycle.

Many thanks,
Brant

Hello @New Mexico Brant ;
You have just found a magnificent Clément!
I myself have one too, the 193212, it would be from 1904...
It belonged to a former teatcher ar the very beginning of the last century in my village, JOSSIGNY (FRANCE); he is in his juice!

According to me and what i noticed, the aluminium headbadge would be less common than the brass ones.
Yours would be from 1905 or even 1906, i think.

Regards;
Serge

the letters A and G in the crest may stand for Adrien Gallet

this is a leather goods firm of many decades duration

saddles for cycles, scooters, mopeds, etc. produced under several names including ADGA, Club & Gallet

the ADGA name is the one most frequently encountered in recent decades

it is a kind of acronym/compound word comprised of the first two letters of the founder's name paired with the first two letters of the last name

the ADGA model 28A saddle pictured immediately below was original equipment found on hundreds of thousands of Peugeot manufactured cycles of the 1960's and early 1970's

should you have TOC research sources you find helpful you could try checking for the Gallet name to see if you can gain additional information
