Vicious Cycle

Finally riding a big boys bike
I can't get the pre-war serial page to open so.. I have # S75988 Excelsior badged Schwinn, No year on crank, 6" head tube = tall frame ?

I think it dates to 1936 but would like to know.

Looks like a Hawthorne chain ring on there. Looks like something happened and both crank and ring were replaced.
 
That is what I was thinking, I haven't seen a Schwinn crank with these markings.
In the catalog pages above, it mentions but doesn't show one with the knee action fork, Is a straight downtube with knee action a common combo?
I can't say I've seen many.
