Wore out three sets of tires already!
I'm assuming this is most likely pre-33' being a motobike tank.

The teens era Excelsior's seem to have a block lettering instead of the script .

Anyone want to venture an educated guess as to the year this might be from?

the script style shown above showed up on many schwinns-mostly on the down tubes of the deluxe bikes and have seen on motorbike tanks (with 'tear drop panel)and the 2 piece tank(clamp on style) from 1940 on-probably even early postwar models.

I have this one, while stripping off the multi paint layers I stopped after seeing this on the side. Also, no idea what yr it is. Does not seem to be as rounded as yours though it has the same script. NO IT'S NOT FORSALE

Hello! I am no where near as knowledgeable as most of the people on here, but just judging from the actual style and construction of the toolbox, I believe these were in use from the very late 1920s to mid 1930s. Probably discontinued prior to 1940 though, except maybe as an aftermarket in a catalog or something. I have seen this style tank equipped on Colson and Elgin bicycles from that date range, and other makes. The features that lead me to this notion, is that it has a pivoting rectangular flat-clasp at the bottom of the door, instead of 2 rounded clasps on either side of the door as seen on earlier 20s tanks. Also, it has the pressed steel top, and the bottom is crimped/spot welded on. The earlier toolboxes unusually are crimped/ spot welded on both top and bottom, and therefore are not as rounded in profile, lacking any pressed steel sheets. That is my general opinion about the age of your toolbox.
