Wore out three sets of tires already!
Having overhauled over 20 ND model D hubs this winter (I bought out a couple of bike collections this summer) I noticed 3 types of ND lock rings on the hubs. Which of these models are the oldest (1930s) and the newest 1950s-1960s?

#1 has the word New Departure stamped on it, #2 has no stamping and #3 has 3 notches and New Departure stamped on it.

No one else chimed in?

I have a 1952 Schwinn World with ND model D and it has ring #1. I believe this is the original hub, and everything on this bike appears to be original 1952 parts. Maybe this will bring some other responses.

There are other types as well, different finishes, no text with 1 and 2 wrench notches, and one with a smaller hole for the DD.

From what I've seen chronology is:
2
1
1 & 3
1
It seems that 1 and 3 were produced concurrently, 3 having a short window just after WWII, and it's interesting that it has no groove for the stop light switch.
What I've seen, corrections welcome :smileycat:
