Diamond 1/2 pitch chain help?

I received this chain in a box of parts. It is gold in color and has a protruding post every 3rd link. Does anyone have an idea what this chain would be intended for? Any help would be appreciated.

It is a real nice diamond chain , I have never seen one with this copper looking finish. Do you think it is prewar?

I have a similar colored one but this one is stamped Regina.

Definitely odd.
The gold outer plates are fairly common, but those link pins are a head scratcher for sure.
Maybe the protruding link pins were for some type of a counter pick up?
Or automatic oiling system?
I’ll be curious to find out what gives with those?
