@cyclingday 😕You never see a Colson crank do this.

Colson? Never heard of them! You never see a Colson crank do this.
Must’ve been the original chroming that did that. Ha haHate to admit it but....this has happened to me twice now. First time kinda made since as it happened to a rusty and crusty '40 straight bar...Yes @fordmike65...a Schwinn...sigh! Same point of failure.

Nah...46T look lame...just run a larger cog on the hub to tone it down.I think he had "too high of a gear on it". Drop that 52T down to a 46T and "spin it a little".
LOL

Yeah seems like I saw Marty’s sweet commander crank break off in two
That’s cause there’s more schwinn s out thereI used to ride with a big guy (280+). On 2 separate occasions, he snapped post war Schwinn cranks in the same fashion. I wonder if Schwinn hardened there cranks, as I have had quite a few non Schwinn cranks that bend🤔
You could answer your question by simply taking a file to test the metal surface hardness. I do not believe they were case hardened.I used to ride with a big guy (280+).
