I live for the CABE
~ Early 1930's ~ Elgin Motorbike Frame For Restoration ~ 26 x 2.25 Balloon Tire ~ $165.00 shipped ~
This heavy, early frame is solid and has been housepainted at one time as you can see.
It has the earlier version of the Elgin headbadge and would be a nice project bike for the right collector.
The metal clad / wood rims I have listed on The Cabe recently were on this bike when I found it.
A square shouldered Elgin toolbox tank might fit this frame, but I'm not sure what would be correct for this year and model of frame.
There are dents at the chain stays where the pedals rubbed on both sides and there is also a bend to one of the seat stays with a couple of dents as shown, otherwise there are no other dents that I can see. This frame is very repairable with a little effort.
The unusually heavy crown fork is straight and solid with no bends or dents and gives this frame an interesting motorbike appearance.
The original Elgin cranks and chainring are rusty with much of the plating worn off and could be cleaned up for that original look or replated if desired.
Anyway, this is a good start to an early balloon tire era restoration!
