Cruisin' on my Bluebird
I have a friend who owns Antique store here in Illinois
He has a Very Nice Iver Johnson with a 3 speed Sturmey.
Bike itself looks to be original paint with gold box stripes.
Here swears that he bought it from a gentleman who owned a shop and that this bike is new old stock.
“ Never had a the Wheels on the road only used as advertising and only sat in the window. “
We have gone back and fourth with our opinions.
I see a tiny wear on saddle.
These few items raise the flag :
Peddles looked to be chromed or shiny.
Chainguard chainring and crank look to be very shiny
Bars looks to also pretty shiny.
My theory is that main frame and most parts may be original unrestored and the a some parts have been re chromed

Or bike has been completely restored and done very nicely. !

Hub , shifter and cable do look untouched and minty.

Like to see if some one has a firm opinion as I am thinking partial restore

If someone is interested in this Bicycle I can pass info and location on.

Sorry guys these are only pictures I have
It gets very busy because all the stuff behind
Bicycle

From the 1940 Catalog. Very nice example whether it is original or restored!

Very nice
Thank you for posting this.
1940 it is. Still a nice pre war specimen!
Sturmey looks to be a bonus .
I’m not sure if it can be determined by shifter
Handle is it corresponds with 1940.

Wow! That is beautiful and looks exactly like the 1940 literature! Great bike! However, NOS? Hard to believe no one has ever ridden it! If only bikes could talk!

My thoughts. !
His high point was to tell me that the bike still
Has original rubber since put together.
They looked to be more narrow and had linear
Tread pattern .
Put I didn’t pay to much attention
Wished I would of looked a tad closer to see exactly was on her. !

I was thinking the same thing concerning the spokes--I would expect these to be double-butted. The Sturmey hubs are date coded so you can check to see if it is period or not. V/r Shawn

I figured hub may be marked somewhere.
I appreciate the confirmation Shawn
Do to its location it is hard to search around .
Seller has this baby securely strapped in multiple
Locations with little room to move , turn or spin much of anything unless it was taken off display board.
Because of the question and the bling I tend to levitate towards patina ! And am not a buyer on this particular Iver.
Been in this store for a couple years .
This dealer / owner tends to like nice stuff including original 30’s cars , nice store to visit.
Always like to expose these bikes sitting in antique stores on anticipation to promote and get them to a potential buyer who likes bikes !
I appreciate all the info.
