Finally riding a big boys bike
This is probably a dumb question but I’ll ask it anyway.

I’m putting together an Elgin Robin that is a collection of parts from many different sources. The fork, front fender and frame are all from different bicycles. It seems to me that the front fork should have a threaded hole in it for a fastener to secure the fender to it. The fender has a reinforced hole in that seems like a fastener should go through it into the fork. That seems to be very common on other brands I’m more familiar with.

There is a hole in this fork but it’s pretty big and I don’t believe there are any threads in it. I’ve tried several sizes from 1/4”-3/8”- nothing feels like it catches any threads. Is it possible someone stripped this out badly? Or did it never have threads in it? Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Oh wow! I’ve never seen that but it makes sense. Thank you!

Any idea what size bolt that is? 1/4”? Length?

If I’m understanding this correctly the nut is up in the steering tube? How do you get that in there?

Bolt is in the head tube. You need a long screwdriver to hold the head. Big flat washer, lock washer, and nut are under the fender. Holding it in place. I have a bunch of extras...

Perfect. Now I understand. Really appreciate the help.

The sprocket on this project came from you about 8-9 years ago, BTW.

Funny I came across this post since I was equally curious about the way the fender mounted on my Blackhawk/Falcon mashup I’m working on. 🤔 I found it was mounted as described here by catfish and at the time just figured the last owner improvised. Good to know this was how it was done. Thanks catfish👊🏻
