Cruisin' on my Bluebird
I got this bike today as part of a trade.

I know it's an Elgin, kind of lost at what year it is.

Any ideas?

She is going to get an OA bath in the near future, planning on getting her back on the road in the future

Hi,

Some guesswork (happy to be corrected), here goes:

Split seat stem tube, seat bolt, chainwheel and fork crown indicate Westfield built, which confirms the Elgin badge.

The Elgin badge itself is 1920's to early 1930's style.

The serial number does not include the frame dating system (letter with one or two numbers up to 12) introduced in 1934, so pre 1934.

I've not located this exact frame shape, but it looks earlier (more angular) than some from 1930 I located, and the saddle stem is of an earlier type, although these can be swapped, so is not a good indicator.

From looking at other Westfield serial numbers, I know that stamping letters at the beginning of the serial number with a single upright (E, F, (not I, not used), J, K, L is 1933, so no later than that) on a curved surface is difficult, and often the top, bottom or both of the letter are poorly defined. To me, this could be an E = 1927 or F = 1928, and I'm inclined to F because it has a higher crossbar, and we should see either the top or bottom horizontal.

I hope this helps,

Best Regards,

Adrian

Snyder.
With the badge style, I believe it could have been Westfield or Snyder; too early for Murray; most likely too late for Davis.
The seat post cluster (bolt) is not close enough for Westfield.
The bottom bracket, signature Snyder.

Snyder about this time could have been built at their Michigan City Indiana factory.
I have guessed that the early alphabet characters indicate MCI, versus Little Falls NY; "A" = 1931(?)
Fender is fairly shallow, maybe 1920's(?)

I believe that the straight down tube may be a key, but that general ladies frame design may go back to the ToC. The upper tube appears to have less of a radius bend and more of a distinct kink.

here is another shot of the hanger bracket.

This one you can see the 4 with better clarity, it isn't an A

You can see that there is a 5 and something else that isn't stamped well.
