Hammerhead

Cruisin' on my Bluebird
Picked up this frame for free on marketplace. The guy said he thinks it's an Elgin. Should make a nice Hotrod. That's my plan anyways. Early 40's? Had a girls fork with double stacked everything except the nut. Had a blown out steer tube on the fork. Discovered after removing. The frame looks solid though. Now to put together some parts and get it rolling. Have fun and enjoy the ride. Hammerhead

Hi @Hammerhead

As @lgrinnings says, F25836 is an Westfield produced bike, made around March 1941. There should be a letter/number code stamped above the serial number (probably H2 or H3, if you can confirm, I'd appreciate it for my listings).

From my lists, the nearest known survivor is F25849/H2, a lady's Sterling. When I saw that, I thought the 'Still doin' time' might have been a reference to Stirling's motto 'Built like a Watch', but the badge holes are in the wrong place. : https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/sold-survivor-og-1941-ladies-westfield-sterling.39367/

The closest similar model I have listed is @elginkid F24815/H2 Post 157 here: https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/westfield-frame-numbers-1933-1945.100743/page-16

This is Westfield produced Elgin, with the same chainwheel as yours, and the Elgin badge hole spacing is the same as yours, so yours is likely an Elgin, probably with a Musselman finned rear hub.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Adrian

Wore out three sets of tires already!
Had one frame like this still in the local circuit. Had this idea to slap an Evans Action on it and Did at one point to theorize a very strange rider. It's in my project posts somewhere, here. Absolutely a favorite in way of lines and make.
