Here is the head badge and serial number.
Looks like an early one; guessing (key word “guessing”) about 1922, (the end of Davis); and because the serial number does not have a letter.
Maybe also check out the anyone own a Davis thread for situational awareness, related to Sears’ suppliers.
I believe that Excelsior Cycle Co. did build bikes like these from the middle teens (their new re-beginning) until the later 1920’s.

Some of their older (teens) bikes may have had a different style truss fork, with the fork offset pieces (stand-offs) attaching lower, below the crown, not a lateral extension of one of the crown plates.
Some time perhaps in the late 1920’s, bikes became more of a toy, and the adult sized frame became the nonstandard.
