I noticed that for being a slightly larger frame it was a little lighter than I was expecting. Do you think they might have been German made?

It's just wild speculation on my part, But yes that's what I was implying.

Looks like the original paint color might be maroon. So far the layers are maroon, then orange, and red on top of that. Im going to try stripping it down, but I’m not real hopeful that it will work great. The top paint colors have been pretty resilient to everything from tape to chemicals. The only thing that has removed them at all has been graffiti remover. I’ll go slow and hope for the best.

Just grabbed one of these recently as well! I thought maybe it had the incorrect chain ring until I started looking into it!
