Explain Why the Difference

have two feather chain guards, the painted one is flat on top, the platted one is rolled on top both are the same except for this (sorry for low light photos ) my guess different years? does the Different style change with year or model of bike? any information would help, thanks.....

That’s the deal. Usually. Painted are flat and curved are chrome. Usually.
