First Official Vintage Gravel Bike Race in Michigan this past weekend and it was a success!!!
Interesting that your choices happen to be Schwinns. A bit biased perhaps? (jus' givin' you da business) Solid choices.
I am intrigued in the setups as well. I'm diggin 399 as well because it reminds me of my 1919 Mead Ranger arch frame. Think it would go faster if his chain wasn't upside down?
So, the back Story on my selection is that I used to commute back and forth to work on my wife's Flamboyant Red P15 Paramount. I lady pulled out from a stop sign one night on my way home and I totaled the Paramount frame. I took the 27" Campy hub Paramount wheels off of the wreck and put them on a Lime Green Varsity (almost exactly like the Coppertone Gravel Bike) to continue my daily commute. Your correct, I was biased, LOL.

Here is a 15 speed 1963 Schwinn Varsity in Radiant Coppertone paint. Recently entered in Michigan's first ever vintage gravel road race (second place in the "Unclean 16" -- WooHoo!). All original except for tires (they are a more modern Schwinn tire). Recently tuned. New brakepads. Tires in...

The trend lately has been to take a decent non-suspension 1990s era mountain bike and convert it to a gravel bike using parts and tire size. The one scary thing about that is 1990s era bikes are now vintage. Time sure passes fast.
