First Pedal Driven Bicycle?

Hi All,

Pathé news reel from 1946 of the 100th anniversary of the direct pedal driven bicycle by Kirkpatrick MacMillan of Dumfreeshire, Scotland.

Interesting that his 'youngest descendent' got an 'up to date Parabike'!

Technically a treadle-driven bicycle, but the first use of cranks (mounted to the rear axle driven by the treadles). The first pedal-driven bicycle is attributed to Pierre Lallament 20+ years later with actual pedals mounted to cranks affixed to the front wheel axle.

For a pedal bike, it has to be Pierre Lallement. Despite what the Michaux Bros. claimed, his patent held up in the scrum of 19th century court cases.

My friends son has an 'Elipti-Go'.
It's quite a sight to see in action, and pretty fast too!
Much debate on this subject of the first 'bicycle' recently within the V-CC 'Boneshaker' journal.
Lallement's claim certainly has the most convincing evidence behind it.
