Shellbelle

On Training Wheels
I picked up a Flying Star a few years ago and now starting to work on it. When I push the pedals, the rear wheel does not move. I can spin it with my hand. I can also spin the gear with my hand. Any ideas what could be wrong?

The rear hub might need maintenance or repair; sounds like the rear wheel coasts but the clutch won’t drive.

A good practice is to re-lubricate and check for worn, broken, missing, incorrect, or incorrectly-installed parts (e.g., spring).

Sometimes additional oil in the rear hub may be a temporary fix.

Welcome to the CABE.
Remember to post pictures of your bicycle.

Post a picture of your whole bike, side view from the chain side.

Post a picture of your rear hub from the non chain side. If there is an "arm" on the hub tied to the frame, try to get the brand name that is stamped on it in your pic.

What is the tire size?

Are your rear brakes hand brakes? How about the front?

Do you have multiple gears (any kind of a shifter)?

I have a feeling we would get to the bottom of this problem faster if we knew exactly what you are working on. Over the years, there have been a lot of Flying Stars.

I took it to a shop this weekend and it’ll likely cost more to fix than I want to spend at this time. Thanks for the input.

Post a few photos. May have some interest in people wanting to purchase the bike if you're no longer wanting to make it a ridable. Myself included.
