Pretty interesting to say the least.
Chestnut and the surfboard fork darts were first used on the 1981 models.
The serial number was stamped on the part (Headtube) in October. With that number probably mid October. Frame build date unknown.
The badge stamping looks like it was messed with, and I can make out 2880, Oct. 14th 1980. The bottom badge screw is buggered up!
Schwinn assembly workers walked off the job and went on Strike Oct. 27th and the strike lasted 13 weeks. No bikes made, but parts were.

That bike was made in 1981 after the strike. Someone replaced the head badge. Normal production from serial date to build date is never the same month. Normal production is 45 days and longer from serial stamping to finished bike.
