Look Ma, No Hands!
paramount_seeingdouble_2-1.jpg

I purchased both bikes locally back in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Following are their individual stories:

E7009 was purchased off of Craigslist and rebuilt to original specifications from a frameset that was paired with its original drivetrain and headset. Little of the rest was original. All other components were sourced for the build and are period-correct. Wheels were built with Mavic Module 3's and DT spokes as an upgrade to the lousy Weinmanns that would have otherwise come with it - besides period-correctness, I require that all my bikes be equipped with hooked-bead rims.

Downtube decals have been replaced with vinyl reproductions. The Reynolds 531 and seattube decals are missing, and the headbadge is a bit faded - these are the only things I can really fault the bike for (I believe I have a Sugino MW68 ISO BB spindle in it instead of a genuine Campagnolo spindle, for those who are concerned about absolute accuracy). The original pinstriping is intact, the chrome is excellent, and the bike is beautiful. It has a Waterford Provenance Report which states that it was originally sold by Magnano Cycle; to my knowledge, a Schwinn dealer here in Florida.

C72158 is also a Florida bike. The story goes that the original owner ordered this bike from Mack Cycle here in Miami, but sometime halfway through the order process, a Paramount matching the order request became available via a Schwinn shop father north - either in Ft. Lauderdale or West Palm Beach. Someone had backed out of buying it, supposedly. Whatever the case, the original buyer made the drive upstate and came back with C72158, which he owned until 2007, when he passed on. His son inherited the bike that year. The bike was subsequently disassembled for restoration by John Dacey at Business Cycles, where it languished until 2009. I purchased it August 22nd of that year, and proceeded to rebuild it using as many of the original components as possible, regardless of condition (I chose to leave some of the slightly pitted brakeset hardware present, rather than replace them with NOS components).

Nevertheless, I did make a few substitutions; namely, the Mavic tubulars were replaced with Rigida AL1320 clinchers, and the original Giro D'Italia bar was replaced with a Campione Del Mondo. The front derailer was an early Record FD with a cable stop that pre-dated the bike, so I replaced it with a correct pre-'73 Nuovo Record FD. I left the original downtube decals intact, even though they show patina. The 531 decal is intact, but the seattube band decal is not present. I have another set of replacement vinyl decals that I will include - they are the same as used on E7009. I can only fault this bike for some rust pitting on top of the Nervex crown - I've gone over them with bronze wool, but they're there to stay. The fork chrome is also a bit weak, in comparison to the rest of the frame - I think someone might have hit it with a mild abrasive in the past. It still shows beautifully, regardless.

Bikes are on eBay now. Don't mind the opening bid; asking price remains what is stated here.
