La Vie Au Grand Air (The Outdoor Life). June 5th, 1903, No. 247 featuring Major Taylor on the cover. 18 pages plus the cover. The mag actually has two "covers". The top green one with the head shots and the inside cover with Taylor on the bike being held up by his friend and fellow racer Woody Hedspath. Hedspath was another African-American racer from Indianapolis who achieved a fair amount of fame in Europe. There are a few more pics of him inside along with other stories of French outdoorsmanship. There's an article on shooting, track and field, horse racing and auto racing featuring Marcel Renault who went on to form the car company bearing his name. Text is entirely in French. The mag measures approx. 11 1/4" x 14". There are tons of cool ads on the insides of the covers. It has some condition issues. The staples that held it together are gone. It may have been stapled into another publication as an insert. The green cover is detached and has some tears. There is soiling and toning of the pages as well as a few tears. It was folded in half at some point so there's a crease across the center. All in all it's still a nice surviving piece of bicycle racing history. Asking $95. shipped anywhere in the lower 48.
