Is there a way to tell a men’s fauber crankset from a women’s fauber crankset? Does it have anything to do with having or not having the dogleg on the sprocket side?

If from adult bike, your 24t skiptooth sprocket in pic probly from women's. Arm length probly around 6.5" center-center.

Something to consider is that the Fauber cranksets were fairly proprietary at the ToC and for a while afterwards, predating any standardization movement.
The sizes of holes and threads and bearings and cups and interface dimensions may be peculiar, and perhaps different depending upon the years.

Also, a 24-tooth chain ring sprocket might have been used on some juveniles models.
