German bicycle???

Please be patient, I’m new here. Need help identifying brand of my bike and determining age so I can sell it. I see names on individual parts, but not bike, itself. What are the letters HMJ on the handlebars? I think the badge sticker on front is a bike shop in Germany.

Hello Scrappy and welcome to the forum! ; ^ )

thanks very much for sharing this mount

appears as though it may have been contract produced for a retail store in Hamburg

date appears near to 1982

if you are curious regarding a specific date for the cycle there are a number of places where a date marking may reside

these include backside of crank arms, wheel rims, hub barrels, portion of handlebar stem down inside frame, backside of brake calipers, ends of handlebar beneath hand grips

there is a guide here to reading any markings found, if wished -

Date of Manufacture for Bicycle Components - Vintage Trekwww.vintage-trek.com › component_dates

---

frame -

this pattern of frame is termed a berceau; it is a subpattern of a design called a mixte

it is construced with lugs & laterals bridge from the firm BOCAMA

its seat stay and chain stay bridges are from the company ESGE

---

can make no guesses as to actual manufacturer

letters marked on handlebar stem - suspect they are intended to be read as HJM rather than HMJ but do not recognise either way

doubt that this handlebar stem is original to the cycle

---

photo tip -

you have given readers eight images of the bicycle which is good

in general readers will gain more information regarding the machine with pictures taken from its drive side rather than from its non-drive side

of the eight photos four are from the non-drive side and only one from the drive side; the one drive side picture is taken at a shallow angle which limits the information which can be gleaned

---

other readers will be along shortly who are sure to be able to give you more and better information regarding this steed
