Today I was finally putting together 4 bicycles that were all eBay purchases sitting in their shipping boxes the last 6 months.

On one of these, an awesome original paint Red 79 Spitfire 5,
I noticed this paper clip painted to the bike !

Has anyone seen this before on a Schwinn ?

Yep, seen it before but my paperclips were painted Chestnut and Black. I've only seen them on the drum brake 5 speeds so I'm thinking they were there to easily distinguish 5 speed frames from the coaster frames. The dropout spread is the only difference between the two frames, so all atom drum 5 speeds probably had the clip. Never had a Cruiser 5 with the rear calipers so I can't say if it had a paperclip or not.
