H501 & H502 Crank

Wore out three sets of tires already!
Looking for a bit of information on these two.

Thus far I've managed to find that the two were possibly prewar? Possibly replacement cranks? 501 being the mens and 502 being the womens, with only 1/2 inch difference between the two.
A thread on here had suggested the possibility that most of the prewar would have used the 502 as opposed to the 501...
Yeah, so I'm a bit confused at this point.

Looking for some solid answers.

One of the early postwar DXs I have had had those numbers on the crank. Don't know if they were put there at the factory or as replacement or rebuilding
