Look Ma, No Hands!
This is a 90s/2000s Schwinn Classic Deluxe 7. Made in Taiwan with Boulder Colorado production sticker. The most peculiar thing is the front handbrake. Can't find another with one on line or their catalog. It also has studs on the fork for the brake caliper. Any thoughts?

I've always wondered why they would build a 7 speed without a front brake. What's the date on that bike? It looks like it may have been built by the Scott group before they hit the wall and Pacific bought Schwinn, or at least the Scott Group were based in Boulder, CO. Is there a 4 digit code on the head badge? That looks professional, like it could have been done by the factory.

I did a Google search, and "BS 6102 Part 1" is a set of standards concerning safety equipment on bicycles, put out by BSI, the British Standards Institution. I'm guessing this was built for the British market and had to meet their standards. I think @dnc1 said all British bicycles are required to have a front brake. How it ended up in Macon GA is anybody's guess.

It doesn't have a rear reflector and it didn't meet the Brit's standards so it was deported. 😜

The requirement for a front brake over here is the legal minimum braking system required for a fixed gear bicycle. Your leg braking skills acting as the second independent braking system required under UK law. The whole legal requirement for brakes here has some very 'grey' areas in places.
A friend has recently written an article for the V-CC covering braking in relation to antique and veteran/vintage cycles; it's a very complex subject which renders many of my older bikes technically illegal to use!

Which issue of the magazine was the brake article in? I'm wondering if I missed it.
