I really appreciate all of the helpful information and passion for these vintage bikes. And, the amusing banter πŸ˜‚ Maybe I'll just keep it and begin the search for a '73 seat!
You should keep it. It will clean up better than you may think. A seat will come along. In the meantime you could get an imposter seat.

How do people economically and safely ship these bikes?
Well to start with, watch some YouTube videos...you wrap EVERYTHING.....and box and double box .....wrap everything like a burrito....no loose parts......bike flights seems to offer the best bang for the buck.......

Some notes aside from the seat.
Disc brake is $$$$. This is definitely going to help the value.
Seat post clamp is missing and seat post is bent, both replaceable, however the top of the seat tube appears that it might also bent too as a result. If this is the case, it will definitely hurt the value.
I'm not well versed with Krate bikes, but would think it should bring over $2k even with the issues it has.

Wow..............

1973 Orange. Powder coated with wrong seat. $3500.

Pony up the 2k. πŸ˜€

I don't want the bike. He asked for opinions on value, so I gave mine.
Within the last few weeks I sold a partially restored, 72 disc lemon peeler for 1900. It was mostly disassembled in a box, and the painted parts appeared to have been powder coated.
This bike should be worth more than the one I sold, in my opinion.
Someone mentioned they wouldn't pay over $2200.
At the end of the day, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
